The Quidditch Costume

Having a little trouble ftp-ing to Madstop, but yay for Rabidpug!

Slightly fuzzy picture of the Quidditch costume:

Misha the Gryffindor Quidditch player

Took us a couple of tries - the camera wasn't letting the nice new batteries work, so we had to borrow one from General Surgery, which needed to be held very, very still. There were a couple of red blurs that I trashed - at least in this one you can tell I have a face.

If you're really bored, feel free to point out all the ways in which it isn't like what I was using for a model: (Don't worry - I've got the exhaustive list already.)

Katie Bell

Took the picture from a fansite for Katie Bell's actress that I can't find right now. It's part of a huge still with all the players from the movie splayed out across the Gryffindor Common Room, including the part that most people see, which is the crop of Oliver Wood sitting on the ground looking sexy. The twins, also very with the sexy. Harry - not so much with the sexy, being all of twelve. (I don't care what you say - he' not going to be sexy until he's at least sixteen (in Britain, eighteen in America.) Lalalalala.)

Eez verra nice... :)

Very cool!

Next year I'll ask you to make my Trolloween scarf :)

That looks so brilliant. *awed*

Umm, I don't get the Britian vs. America age thing, but the costume is brilliant..

[scuse me, Misha]

I'm taking the leap of logic to figure she means in terms of when the consensual/legal age is in each country. It's sixteen in England and eighteen (I think?) in America.

In the US it varies from state to state.

You look so cute! Good job on the costume. Very good job!

Really? Did not know that. Gods, that must be confusing, then.

It is. It so is. And sometimes it depends on the age of your partner, too, which only adds to the confusion. So I generalize to 18.

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Age of consent. Britain is 16, America is... fucked, and not in a literal sense, alas. So I generalize to 18.

Thank you :)

Give me more than a week's notice, please. My hands are still twinging, and oi - my back! :)

hoo BOY. That's nutsoid... *is quite glad not to have to worry about that, hee*

[identity profile] sheer-panic.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is rather. AR is 16, VA is 15, IL is 18.. and then there's the guy in IA who ended up doing jail time for taking sexy pictures of his lover.. completely legal for him to sex her all day long at age 16, but take one snapshot and it's child porn, and 20 years in the slammer for you.

US laws often make *no* sense.

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks :) I'm really critical of my own work, so it's really nice to have people ignore the wrong bits and just say it looks good.

[identity profile] sheer-panic.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyway.. what position do you play?

I'd be rather keen to be a chaser, myself. ;-)

S.

Stoopid laws

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh - it's amazing that they occasionally (once in a blue moon) *do* make sense.

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Katie's a chaser, and even if I weren't dressed as her, I'd probably want that position. My hand-eye coordination isn't good enough for beater, and there's not enough pitch-long flying as keeper. Forget seeker.

Not that I've given this much thought at all. :)

I'm thinking I'll ask around, say, September some time? :)

Next year I'll give my skeleton some more thought *grins*

[identity profile] sheer-panic.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yah.. the flying is the part I'd really enjoy also.

[identity profile] shihadchick.livejournal.com 2003-11-01 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
*nod* I know what you mean. Though I'll say I for one can't see any wrong bits. :)

[identity profile] sisterfish125.livejournal.com 2003-11-02 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
WOW!
Looks amazing! You're so talented!

Way kewl!

[identity profile] shrewreader.livejournal.com 2003-11-02 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Misha, your costume rocks like a rocking thing! Way to go!

Now, about getting that broom to fly..... Could make commutes -much- easier here in Atlanta, so if you figure it out, let us all know? Please?

Bottom isn't hemmed, the sweater has no sleeves (I *did* keep the robe on for a reason), the robe's sleeves are a little on the long side... The rest are pretty minor details that I'm aware of, but only because I obsess over researching costumes when I'm making them.

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-02 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yay me! Thanks :)

Re: Way kewl!

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-02 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but does it rock like Stonehenge, or the Rockies? :)

My line on Friday was that it was 'a training broom' that I'd brought 'for my little cousin', and the real brooms were locked up in the broom shed. That one's a little small for daily commuting, but I didn't have time or resources to make an adult sized one.

Soon as I have the cushioning charms worked out, I'll let you know :)

Nice costume. I didn't do anything, though I did tell kids that Smarties were good for their eyes. And I'm glad you decided to use Alefnot Hosting Services. (Rabidpug)

Speaking of Wood, you missed a good hockey game the other night. They won it in our corner. And we were in row three. We also had a fight in our corner. The angst was delicious.

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-02 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks :)

Man! You gotta tell me when y'all are going - I love babyhockey!

[identity profile] themouseketeer.livejournal.com 2003-11-11 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
That is just so cool! And the photo of you looks ace, too (not just the costume)

[identity profile] unmisha.livejournal.com 2003-11-11 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!
