Works in Limbo
Nephilim is in final beta (I hope), and it got me to poking around at others of my works in progress, seeing what I could work on or polish or outline, and I got to the old Lois and Clark files I have. I haven't watched the show in a couple of years - I'd fallen out of it in the middle of burning out on the IRC season, and in the middle of finding slash. I only ever finished a couple of fics for it - most of my work was in the IRC round robins, but I started and outlined at least a dozen fics.
And they're good ideas. More than a few of them deal with Lois&Clark's family - the same one I outlined in It's Genetic. I just... a lot of things fall by the wayside. I may get back to some of them - one or two only need a little work and I can post them.
Of course, some things I'm glad fell off the bandwagon - all those Mary Sues as I was working my way through Sentinel fandom. I never did go through that in my honeymoon with Due South before I found slash - there were enough interesting female characters to explore there - and Victoria! Whuff!
Sentinel fandom, though - I'm still stunned by the preponderance of slash. It always seemed very exclusionary to me. SXF accepts het fic, but no one ever writes the stuff. The Gen community there is very gen, and very defensive about it, with good reason. The slashers just took over and by sheer volume, bulldozed anything else under. It's probably why I wrote gen for the Sentinel Virtual Season - there was too much slash out there, and I'd just vanish into the morass. (To some degree that suspicion was borne out at Senticon - the people who recognized my name knew me from Due South fandom)
It's a little odd looking at some of my older unfinished projects. Like: 'What the hell was I thinking? Where was I going with this? I had notes, right?' And at the same time: 'Oh yeah. That's not nearly as lame an idea as I thought it was.'
Maybe I'll finish some of them someday.
