Fun and dismemberment in the workplace
I was never terribly fond of Mondays to begin with - there aren't many who are, I venture, unless they've managed to get their lucky asses on a 4-10's schedule. Harborview Mondays, though, strain my patience and my tolerance for noise, disruption and people to their utter limits. I've mentioned this before, I think, the unimaginably tiny space shared by three of us, with the high traffic right.behind.my.desk, but what's a previous whinge to stop me?
By 9:30, the bustle was enough to drive me out into hiding in one of the 5th floor lounges in the security controlled building across the street. I was back in my office at 11, only to beg Ali over email to get me the hell out of here for lunch. I would have gone into hiding at the art museum just a couple blocks away (ah. quiet.) but they're not open on Mondays. Alas.
Ali's a haven. She's so utterly blissful, going into her third month of a steady relationship with Nevada, that she just beams, constantly and continuously. It's such a relief after the bitching my officemates do. The one, L, has a rather piercing voice, and as great as my talent is for ignoring the world around me while I read, I'm not that good.
The capper to today is my boss' sudden arrival for a meeting with one of the doctors. I'll need to check the lunar calendar - it must be a blue moon tonight. And for once, right as he appeared over my shoulder (I hate that,) the room was quiet. So I couldn't exactly bring up the awful working conditions. Right now, though, there are five other people in here, the two people who work here, the temp, a doctor and a resident, asking loud questions about meal reimubursement while L is arguing about her cable bill on the phone.
Shoot me! Someone fucking shoot me! I'm quite ready to stab my eardrums with a spork, and then start rampaging around the hospital like a twisted lemur on acid. Well, maybe not quite like that, but you get my meaning.
