Cravings

Mom and Dad are off north to talk to a real estate agent about housing and such up north of Seattle. If the plane deal with Africa goes through, Dad'll have an office up in Arlington. I'm crossing my fingers.

Only now I'm at loose ends for lunch. I'd thought of walking down to the UVillage, but there's really nothing there to eat that appeals to me. I've been hit by a sudden craving for sushi and tempura, but I can't remember which restaurants in the UDistrict might have what I'm looking for - the memory taste that's hitting me is from the meal I had with Rhi and Dragon up in Vancouver a few months back. Crispity crunchy tempura prawns with that light, sweet broth-sauce. Guess I'll just have to go wander.

So I indulged my Tempura craving today - little tiny Japanese restaurant at the tail end of The Ave with delightfully light tempura, only halfway decent sushi, and a trio of delightful tables around me chattering away about their respective lives.

Since I was in the UDistrict anyway, why not visit the used bookstore? And hey, while I'm there, why not hit the used cd store next door?

I got out of the bookstore with four books. They were having some sort of Christmas sale - half off? Ten bucks for four books is just bloody amazing. A couple of Lord Dunsany reprints, since I'd noticed mention of him in my Tolkein essays, and two SM Stirling collaborations.

I didn't get out of the cd store that easily. BareNaked Ladies, those gods of the stage that I saw the 17th? Four albums. U2, since I only have their 80's hits? Three albums. No Doubt, The Police and Backstreet Boys rounded out my wallet abuse. I just shelved them all, and I'm ready to start a new row on my cd shelves! Much with the wooing and the hooing!

Mom and Dad found a nice house today. It's lovely large, with room enough for a mother-in-law apartment in the downstairs, for my grandparents, and while it's got a ton of room for improvement (read: ripping out walls, changing bathroom configurations and redoing the kitchen entirely), Mom likes that sort of thing. She'll be in hog heaven. It's on the upside of their price range, but if Nanny and Papa move in and pay rent, it should be afordable. They're pumping Lori for mortgage numbers, since she's handy, and they still want to run it by my uncle the CPA for feasability...

Local parents again. I could get with this idea.
