The biggest cost of switching
Sep. 11th, 2003 10:28 amMicrosoft's issued yet another security patch for the RPC vulnerability, and it's sparked (again) the discussion to change over to another OS. It typically gets shot down (around here at least) by support staff who really don't want to deal with the transition, but the funniest part of the latest email response is right in the middle of his list of 'costs':
Cost of training administrators, support staff and users.
Cost of equipment to switch out from your MS based network.
Cost of "overtime", wear on the administrators, support people.
Cost of man hours spend trouble shooting the problems between the switch and
during the switch-over
Cost of coffee, plus Latte Tax
Other unforseen costs
