I had an appalling thought while waiting for the bus this morning.

In another time or another country, where the head honcho has by gotten there by means of bribery and nepotism, and has been using the sort of religiously motivated hate-speech to swell the ranks of his followers the way Bush has? We'd likely be in the middle of a religious civil war by now. Or a military coup. Or something like that.

I had to put down my book and think happy thoughts instead.
