The [insert time period here] in Review
May. 18th, 2005 09:46 pmHad my first annual review in 3 years today. It was good - got to talk to my boss and vent a wee bit of frustration over the workload from being 2 people down and then the Security stuff. He had as many ideas for training as I did, which, given that I haven't been to any formal training classes in a couple of years, made me happy. Nothing like a computer professional who's behind the tech curve. So I'll be trained up in Filemaker and as a secondary Mac server admin and Linux (with the justification that I want more under-the-hood Mac experience, so any Unix is good.)
Best feeling out of it was talking about the more nebulous part of Help Desk - the people skills. 'Cause not only am I the local guru, my users know it, and feel comfortable asking me questions. Of 200 users, I really only despise one of them, and most of them I'm pretty friendly with. (Not on a 'Hey, I read slash' sort of friendly, but more a 'hey, how was your weekend' sort of friendly.) When they're all clustered in their division cliques at the holiday party, I'm the social butterfly. (Which amuses the hell out of me, given: me=introvert) So basically, I rock.
Don't get a raise or nothin' out of it, but it was all good.
Afterwards (we ran past 5 talking.) I scurried home and checked the sky. It'd been raining all day, off and on. On when I was waiting for a shuttle with no shelter, off when I got on the shuttle. That sort of thing. But I'd plants from a week ago what needed planting, and it was clear for the moment. Got over to the patch, pulled a couple weeds and it started raining. The sky was spitting on me. Nevertheless, I scrambled to put everything in the ground. Only 4 tomato plants didn't make it - I need to refill the green water things (which have a proper name, but I can't be arsed) when it's not pouring. I'll put them out with the peppers and basil that are still on the windowsill (and weren't on the planting list.)
Soaking wet by the time I was done. Not sure everything is exactly where it's supposed to be, but... eh. It'll work.
