Quality family time (Saturday)
Sep. 19th, 2005 04:03 pmSo Dru ran me ragged on Saturday. Picked me up for breakfast (blintzes at the Portage Bay Cafe - yum!) then we swung by his girlfriend's place to swap out laundry, then headed to his place to see the drapes and plan. His new apt is a wee little basement studio in Fremont, but he's a minimalist kind of guy, so it works for him. (Plus, he has stuff stashed at the gf's basement, so extra storage for all his climbing/biking/skiing gear isn't an issue.)
He had four khaki drapes from his previous place, but they weren't long enough, and the plan was to tack on some navy fabric to the bottom to reach the floor. We forayed forth to Joann's to pick up the extra fabric, then hit Fred Meyers to pick up an iron and oh, while we're out, let's wash his car (I sat there and knitted for that bit) Back to his place, iron the fabric out, rip the bottom seam of the drapes, pin the new bits on...
And I realize that while I'd brought over my sewing machine? I didn't have the footpedal/power cord. Oops.
Ok, off to my place... only, I'm hungry, and it's past 2. Dru wants to head down to Ikea. I've got this niggling reminder in the back of my head: dude's supposed to be driving up from Portland for the date that night, I should let him know where we're actually meeting. But, he doesn't have my cell, I don't have his number, it's not happening. Off to Ikea we go. Lunch at a Thai place down there, after some aimless circling and 'you can't get there from here' on the other side of the railroad tracks from where we meant to be.
Ikea was a blitz. In, out, get the dresser, and basically blaze past all the shiny things that give me ideas. Not a fun run, but it wasn't for me (and I didn't have a list of the things I would have gotten) so I won't complain. Much.
Finally, we head back to my place, it's 5ish, and I'm bushed. I come in to find several messages from date-dude and basically, since he couldn't get a hold of me (though he knew I would be over at my brother's) he's not coming up. My reaction? Thank God!
I hopped on chat briefly to say, yes, I'd just gotten home, whatever, no I'm tired, quit flirting with me. Log off. Dru assures me he can take it from there with the sewing, and I crawl into bed for some quality pillow time. Woke up, capped off the evening with a Scholomance run and it was all good.
