Weekend Update

The weather was absolutely gorgeous this weekend. A little blustery, but bright and sunny with clouds scudding across the sky. I should have taken the opportunity to further advance my campaign against the weeds in the yard, but the troops decided they'd rather have a weekend furlough, and so the remaining dandelions are safe from my depredations for another week or so.

Instead, what I did Saturday was Shop. Yep, capital S. The Endless Knot down in Belltown is one of my favorite clothing stores, ever. I discovered them at the Folklife Festival a few Memorial Days ago, and I've been a devotee of their light, flowing clothing (yes, and the green) ever since. They had a Sale this weekend, so I hopped the bus downtown and spent an amount of money that I'm ashamed to admit to in the cold light of day.

But I got pretty clothes. The niftiest part about it (besides the savings) was the shopping bags - as I was checking out, the salesgirl plopped a bowl full of drawstring bags made with last year's fabrics onto the counter, and bade me choose three for my purchases. As the sale involved the clearance of last year's line, one of them exactly matched a few of my purchases. How fortuitous! The bags are very well made, with the same attention to detail that I appreciate in their fashions.

I managed to miss the bus home, and with a half hour to kill, and a Sale in the Bon just across the street, I was tugged inside. I managed to keep my cool through Housewares, despite the overwhelming accumulation of nifty gadgetry and shiny knives that cried out to me. On the escalator back down, though, I let my defenses slip just long enough that when I spotted the discontinued linens sale, I was drawn in.

So I have a new set of sheets, too.

Later, Lori and I went to Petco, and I got Laurier a lovely pink harness that didn't fit him, but Callie's new hot pink jingly collar is just as lovely. My boys in pink - Lord, did Laurier squirm and yowl when I was trying to get the harness on him.

I managed to put off grocery shopping until almost bedtime, and then on foot. With a gallon of milk in one bag, a six pack of Guiness and a six of cider in the other, not to mention the meat, cabbage, etc. I nearly pulled my shoulders out of their sockets on the four block walk home. My shoulders are still a bit sore.

Sunday morning I started the Corned Beef and Cabbage, and made another trip to the store for the buttermilk I'd forgotten the night before (for the soda bread.) My timing was excellent. The CB&C was done with enough time to put it in a serving dish before 2, and the soda bread was due to come out of the oven as the guests would arrive.

Well, save for the small fact that there were no guests. Meg and John showed up with Deb in tow (yay!Deb!) and some truly delicious beef stew and rhubarb/scone turnover-y stuff, but the other guests (which I charged Deb with inviting, since this was mostly for her) never showed. We called around, but I didn't think to check my email (where Heather had asked me for directions at about 1) and BWH was busy being rather contagiously ill.

It made me realize two things - one, I'm rather horrible at actually inviting people over myself, even when I want them to come, and two, more corned beef for me!

I think I need to manufacture some excuse to invite people over and cook for them. And then remember to actually invite them.

After John and Meg left, I completely geeked out. I may have startled Deb a bit with the rapidity with which I attached myself to the television, but Dune was on! And they were showing the first six hours before starting Children of Dune at 9. (I find myself refraining only with effort from using multiple exclamation points.) I came in on the first fifteen minutes of Part Two of Dune, and so managed a little less than six hours of Dune-age.

And there's more tonight! I'm so geeked for it! I'm going to head out of here in a few minutes - I got here early for once, so I'm rewarding myself with a chance to enjoy the sunshine.

I did intend to show up, but I'm fighting off a nasty bug of some kind, and I was all cranky and tired after gaming. :(

You and everbody else. No worries. Take me up on corned beef and cabbage some other time - it was fun to make. :)

Well, I'm supposed to have our final belly dance practice today. And then the final two hours of Children of Dune tonight. (can we say superglued to the tv?) Tomorrow?

Sure!

I'll probably be in serious need of some comfort food. Cause. Well. Still have not heard anything about the job.
