Non-partisan political discussion

For those of you poor saps who had to sit through a year of American Government in high school, and the shifting two-color election maps, I offer you the following: Beyond Red and Blue, which takes the political map and characterizes it by region instead of by state, which are quite different critters.

It's a fascinating deconstruction of the last few elections, and it's even got some strategic hints for both sides (If only the Democrats would listen!)

This is great!

Very often I have to explain the "two Oregons" to folks, because so many don't get that Oregon is really two different states, each originally settled by two major demographic groups from Back East. Really, we should get rid of Southern Oregon and Northern California and bring back the state of Jeffersonia, because they are the same, geologically, geographically, and demographically. Thanks!

No problem - I had this shining moment of 'It all makes Sense now!' and had to share.

::nodding:: And splitting Tennessee into Big River and Appalachia really made sense. Nashville and Memphis don't get along (which makes local politics interesting) because they *do* have completely different geographies and concerns. Thanks for the link!
