Just passed Buttonwillow on the way north after a brief gas/food/pitstop. We've still got a ways to go before I take over - sometime after Sacremento and before Redding and the mountains. It should be easier on me than the flats - those put me to sleep, but the mountains require just enough concentration to keep me awake and alert. Plus, I'm much more comfortable with them than Ali or Lori, so I feel much more useful taking that stretch.
Lori got Gordon a sticker at the gas station. It's not exactly a gold star: Calvin, the grey wheezer who insists on going out everyday, didn't come home last night. Or this morning. Or this afternoon, which is when Gordon called to let me know. I'm concerned, but I'm determined to ignore the little knot of terror in my belly until I can get home and have the freedom to panic and try to do something.
I think a nap is in order to keep me fresh for later.
