Tea tastes different at work. I think it's the plastic.

I have about a half-dozen plastic mugs I got through the years at CC, and they're practically indestructible. They're also nice and large, so I've taken one to work to drink my tea in.

It doesn't taste nearly as nice as at home. At home I properly warm the teapot, and add just the right amount of sugar, and warm the cup as well. If I could get a teapot I knew wouldn't dribble, I'd contemplate bringing one to work. And a tea-cozy. It would require a work-safe tea-cozy. I think this just got added to my wish list.

I think I've read enough slash to get my brain functioning again. It's bad when I sit down at 6 and can't decide if I just want to go ahead and crash. It may just have been low blood sugar.

All told, today wasn't that bad. They've just lengthened the new employee orientation so the whole thing takes all day, including the 2 1/2 hours of benefits explanations. (And UW is part of the State, so it needs explanations). They babbled inanely, I listened with perhaps half an ear, played with the slinky and the koosh and the play doh and chattered with the two other women at my table.

The younger one was just back from her stint in the Peace Corps in Guinea, and was stunned to hear that Dru can't get sugar where he is in Cameroon. It's funny - she lived in a mud hut for two years in Africa, but dammit, she could get sugar!

And the other - is there some cosmic rule that I seem to really click well with military wives? She reminded me a hell of a lot of Crystal, down to the kids, and the desire to be a teacher (up until she took a look at teacher's salaries) and even the long brown hair! Remarkable woman - we kvetched about the forms and kibitzed about classes and college. She made the day bearable. I got to return the favor afterwards by finding her the right bus route to get back to her car without getting soaked by the rain. I wish I'd had an umbrella to loan her, but we work with what tools we can find.
