It's hot outside. <whine>
Therefore, I've moved my little party inside, and I'm watching Buffy. I've only got my hands on the commercial tapes so far, but they're good enough for now.
My LJ client's broken, and so's the one at work, so the entries for the last few days haven't exactly made it up.
Wednesday I woke from a dream where I had to go to Vancouver for Lois McMaster Bujold's book signing, and then make it back to Seattle in time to meet Rhi and Dragon.
The book signing was actually Thursday night at the UW Bookstore. I showed up after work and proceeded to garner myself a big-ass stack o' books.
Lois is a quiet looking woman, with soft, mousy hair and large glasses. She's a decent speaker, and full of humor and news about her books. Her latest, the Curse of Chalion is not a Miles Vorkosigan book, but she does have another Miles book in the works, as well as another fantasy novel. Hey, I'm happy.
I kept quiet during the question and answer session, and then they raffled off a couple of goodies she'd brought - two mp3 audio cds of one of the Miles books, a totebag and a copy of Borders of Infinity. I never win anything. So my reaction on winning the book (one I already had, but I'm not averse to multiple copies), was something along the lines of: 'Oh! Oh my!'
She mentioned something about the nice thing about writing comedies of manners was that she tended to acquire mannerly fans (and certainly interesting ones, as I found just chatting with people.) She suggested that she sign those with a single item first, and do the rest of us in the order of the number of things we had. I sat right myself and my seven books right down and started in on her new book.
I didn't have the most books to be signed, but I ended up at the end of the line anyway, (nose-in-book syndrome), and got home by 10 or so. Didn't sleep until I'd finished the book, though, which was... um... there was a 2 on the clock, so it could have been midnight or 2, I'm not quite sure which.
The Vancouver trip's tomorrow, and Dragon gets a lovely autographed copy of Curse of Chalion for his birthday, and Rhi gets to sample 3 types of cherries (assuming I don't eat them on the drive up.) I'm sending another copy of the book to Mike for his birthday, a little late, but I think he'll appreciate it.
I may have a lead on a roommate, if she calls today. I also got my pictures back, and I've got a round tuit that says they'll be scanned by tonight.
