Preparations
Sep. 19th, 2001 04:05 pmYesterday at lunch I wandered up to the UDist for lunch. I was there ostensibly to get an Svideo cable from radio shack, to hook up my tv and John's DVD player, but once I saw the UBookstore, there was no turning back. Some Terry Pratchett, including Good Omens, Assassin Fantastic (that I've already finished), and Creature Fantastic, two anthologies, a fantasy-swashbuckler novel that looked interesting, and March to the Sea and March Upcountry by John Ringo and David Weber.
A nice mix, and it should keep me occupied enough to not worry about the flight and the waiting in line and the flight and the otherwise interminable boredom I associate with travelling cross country.
Another trip home today at lunch, and I'm completely packed, the cats are taken care of (save for water, but I asked Lucy to keep an eye on it), and all there is to it is to wait. I may dash home a little early - the shuttle's supposed to pick me up between 5 and 5:30, and I'm usually hitting the door at 5:30 if my bus is on time. I don't want to rush, there's enough of that in travel, and it's always easier on me and everyone around me if I just slide on into that serene travelling groove.
I've done this enough, I know how to go about it. What works for me: Don't worry about the time once you're at the airport. Once you're waiting, it's all a series of waits: wait to get your boarding pass, wait to board, wait to take off, wait for your peanuts, wait for landing, wait for your luggage, wait for your shuttle... So you get good at waiting. Fortunately I'm well equipped to amuse myself.
