Restless

The past couple of weeks I've been feeling sore the days after aikido. The thing is, I'm great when I wake up. I feel all stretchy and limber and it's all good. Then I go to work and I sit there in front of a computer and a couple hours later when I finally get up, I'm stiff as a board, walking like I'm rusted machinery that's been sitting out in the rain.

I'm not happy with this. It's not anything residual from practice, it's just 'hey! inactive much?' and it's bugging the hell out of me. I want to blame it on winter and the lack of sunlight, and solstice being so damn close, and I wonder if it was this hard last year, or if the lack of windows in my office is really getting to me.

I mean, even a cast iron sky and the steady fall of rain would be nice to watch and listen to. All I've got now is two taupe walls with papers stuck to them and a clock just above the corner.

I feel better now. I realized I was whining and got the hell out of here. Instead of heading down to SouthCampusCenter and reading, I decided that Support Your Local Wizard was too boring, and The Beauty Myth was too infuriating, and I what I needed was a good walk.

It looks like it worked, because I'm soaked from the thighs down and I'm smiling again.

I had lunch at Agua Verde - salmon tacos this time, and I watched the rain come down across the Bay. The sky isn't iron grey, like storm clouds in the midwest. It's a misty whitish gray, soft and light, like the rain. I walked further after lunch, past the Recycled Cycles place, where I saw a green 3-speed for $30 that tempted me, walked almost to the bridge before heading back.

And all the way back I reminded myself why I liked Seattle, instead of why it drives me nuts in winter. It's lush, and it's green, ferns and vines everywhere under the trees. It's not too cold even when it's wet, and I love my leather jacket even though it's not quite long enough to keep my legs dry.
