You'd think I'd have learned by now that staying up until almost midnight doing whatever - reading, playing Civ 3 (for a change) - leaves tired and pissy and unable to concentrate on anything but solitaire. I have to remind myself when I'm climbing the stairs that, really, I am a generally happy person, and no, I can't curl up under my desk and take a nap.

I haven't been chatty (journally?) this past week - my typical avoidance fare. Wednesday we got the 24-hour-your-landlord-is-a-fuckwit-and-your-power-will-be-shut-off notice. So I spent most of Thursday stewing over the will-we/won't-we have our power shut off that night because the landlord didn't pay the bill for four months. Turns out that he finally did, but we didn't learn this until Friday. He's sent us an itemized bill (and if it hadn't been, I'd have thrown a mannerly hissy-fit in email to him), and asked us rather snottily to pay it quickly, as it is a rather substanstial bill.

A rather rage-honing experience, all around.

I managed to avoid thinking about paying bills until last night, when I sat down and divied up the utilities. I've ben paid recently, so I need to sit down and figure out how much I can spend at Escapade.

Ah, Escapade. I was 12th on the waiting list last year, but this year I registered far enough in advance to actually make it. Whee! Slashcon-age!

I'll be taking the train down and back, which is new for me. Not the train part - just the length of the journey. I leave Wednesday at 9ish in the morning, and the train doesn't pul into the station until 6 the next evening. That's a long ass trip.

So long, in fact, that instead of worrying about the psycho roomies that I've never met (and those that I have ;), I'm worrying that I'll have enough things with me on the train to keep me from being bored out of my mind. Will they have an outlet for my laptop or must I limit myself to only a few hours on the computer? Should I or should I not bring crochetting/knitting/fiddly handcrafts? How many books can I reasonably bring without breaking my back or spending half the trip wanting something I could re-read?

I'm also looking at the panels and wondering just how hard it would be to switch my return ticket to the next day, and manage to be there for the entirety of the con. (The blog/livejournal panel isn't until Sunday after I leave!) sniffle Ah well - I'll ask about it when I get to the train station, and worry about scrambling for a room Sunday night at the last minute.

sigh My knee's bouncing in place since the caffeine's finally kicked in, there's a giant filing cabinet the color of a banana slug outside my office, and the work day's not over yet. Mondays. Feh. You can keep 'em.
