Dad just called. He's in Pagosa Springs, which is a little town just east of Durango, Colorado. The guy running the Durango FBO (Fixed Base Operation - an all-purpose moniker for small airport businesses that sell fuel and other services) wanted twice too much for his operation, and the Tacoma Narrows FBO's been losing money for years, so neither of those looked good. Then someone knew someone else in aviation in Pagosa Springs, and directed Dad there, and he talked to the FBO operator there, and asked if he wanted to sell.

He said yes.

Wohoo!

So Dad's writing up the business plan, and calling me to ask how to set up his computer for the DSL in the Pagosa Springs office, and the plan's getting more and more real every minute. They really are moving out of Kansas.

Of course we talked about my brother, and Dad's previous project, and the way they're related is: Dad got two free tickets to Europe on KLM as part of the Bonaire deal. He wants to take me with to Paris and meet Dru on his way back from Cameroon in six months. Paris! Woo! Double woo!

(Although, damn. I need to seriously brush up on my French.)

Landlord Chuckles has at least talked to the bank. He's told them he's got the money, so wait a little on the foreclosure, but he really doesn't want to pay them.

Ass. Moronic maggot-brained monkey-felcher.

Working where I do, I'm not always aware of the cycles of the University. So it surprises me when I duck into the UBookstore - just to look, of course - and I see tables upon tables of clearance books. End of the school year clearance books. All I wanted to do at lunch was mail Dru his weekly package (a few days late, but I was officially broke on Friday), a couple of tapes and some bills. sigh

Woe is me.

Or rather, woe is my pocketbook. Pax Britannica, Women of Wonder: the Contemporary Years, Quick Cooking with Pacific Flavors, MacWorld, Bead&Button, Threads and Fantasy and Science Fiction. And maybe a few extra subscription cards to some other magazines.

And oh, oh the temptations I was subject to: Daw's put out two 30th Anniversary anthologies, one sci-fi and one fantasy. I cracked open the one fantasy anthology, and the conversation Mercedes Lackey had with her characters was hilarious. Mighty similar to other conversations I've seen/heard on lists of all sorts. I was less tempted by Auel's Shelters of Stone. I will read it. It's one of those inevitabilities of life, but more likely than not, I'll simply pick it up at the Booksale in a few months, or take a few lunches down at the Barnes and Noble and read it in the store. I'm just not moved to pay $25 for it.

Still, is there a Bibliophiles Anonymous or something?

I was actually writing today, completely blowing off any semblance of work, and I forgot to upload the working file. Buggery.
