He hasn't done this to me in a couple of years now, but Calvin got out last night. Maybe when Lori and Lucy went to the store, maybe through the open kitchen window, I'm not sure. I couldn't find him in the house or out, and he wouldn't come when called.
I wasn't overly worried - he's done this before, as I said. One morning in Kansas, we found him sitting by the back door in the rain - he hadn't gone far enough to make it around to the front door, which had the overhang out of the rain. Dumbass cat. So when I woke up with the dawn (beastly thing when one has been up late watching Pride&Predjudice), I went down to the front door, and there he was, waiting on the porch. I let him in, and he meowed something fierce, heading straight for the food bowl.
Dumbass cat.

OK. Could be worse. Could be Georgia in July, with 90% humidity in addition to the 90 degree temperature. With broken air-conditioning for an entire weekend. Oh wait. I did that.

Still, Seattle may only be running 40% humidity, but that doesn't lower the thermometer any. My room is half window, yes, but two of them don't open, and the others only crack, and have no screens. Plus, with the freeway noise, I'd like to keep them closed. And I have only one window in which I could really stick a fan. (and of course, due to the heat wave, most of the fans that we could acquire have been sold out.)

Whine.

Last year I didn't have this problem with heat - my living room got roasting, but I merely holed up in my nice, cool basement room until the cool of the evening. Now... oh, woe.

I think my body's trying to compensate by waking me up at 5, while it's still cool. Damn. I can't believe I'm looking forward to more clouds instead of less.
