I had to do work in my dream last night! Oh, the horror!

Actually, it wasn't too bad. I almost inherited a bookstore from this fantastically old lady who collected guns, but she turned up not-dead, and I had to go back to work: tech support for puppy slashers.

Apparently [livejournal.com profile] lance_nerd and her husband were moving their office into this new little hotel. The movers had gotten all the desks set up, but I had to put in the computers and hook them. We had a little trouble getting the cords to stretch all the way around the desk for the HP1200.

It kind of scares me that I can remember computers that well in my dreams.

When I finished, they headed off - she had to role-play Nick in some dinner-theatre thing, and I had to do something with horses, but I woke up before I got there.

Worries

Well, crap.

Grandpa's in the hospital. He had a dizzy spell last night, and no one knows what's going on with him.

I'm more worried about Grandma at this point. She doesn't drive, doesn't know where she is half the time - a neighbor took her home last night, and my uncle's flown into Chicago this morning to keep an eye on her while Grandpa can't.

There goes any hope of me being productive this morning.

There are days I just want to drop-kick my grandfather into Lake Michigan. Usually they involve me trying to explain computers to him when he doesn't have his hearing aids turned on. Today, though, it involves him having dizzy spells for months, and refusing to talk about them, or plan with my Dad and my uncle how to take care of my grandmother should grandpa be unavailable. Hey - for instance, he could be in the hospital, under observation, because his heart's beating too fast!

I love him, but he's a dumbass sometimes.

(In post-script, I reallyreally want the new iPod. WANT.)

I should have done this first thing when I started working here. I should have gone ahead and reapplied to the iSchool and that would have gotten me started on my classes this summer. Now I may have to wait another year to start up classes, and that's just... I feel dumb and completely out of the loop I should have thrown myself into a year ago. I mean, I wanted to start on this two years ago! And now I'll wait another year? Inconceivable.

Talked to Mom for an hour or near enough. Grandpa's doing fine, but it looks like this has been the kick in the ass he's needed to start really planning. He's asking my uncle to start looking into assisted living arrangements in New York, near Graham and ME. Not just for himself, but to help him keep an eye on grandma, and maybe give them a little time off from each other - they won't need to be attached at the hip anymore.

Mom and Dad will be building when they move to Pagosa Springs, so we tossed building ideas around - there was an article in the UW paper about building with straw that I mentioned to her. Pretty cool - I love talking houses with her, how to use the space, and ideas to hide or display two-foot thick walls and stuff.

When I mentioned Orlando, she decreed that I needed a new swimsuit. Well, not in so many words, but it's good enough as gospel for me. She favors tankinis, but I'm thinking bikini, if I have time this weekend. Seven days, baby.

She also talked me out of the school-funk I got myself into. I was talking to one of my users today about the MLIS program, which is what started the whole thing, and she did mention that the first couple of required classes are a bitch, and maybe I need a few fun classes over the next few quarters to ease myself into the whole school thing. The Bible as Literature or Intro to Folklore or Beginning Latin or Intro to Music Theory or I could brush up on my French or Russian. You know, fun stuff.
