An Alternate Friday Five
Oct. 11th, 2002 09:17 am1. Your favorite *non-fiction* book.
I was very tempted to say The Bible, but I happen to regard it as an amalgam of history, myth and fiction, so that doesn't quite count. It's hard - I tend not to read nonfiction for pleasure - I use it for research, for the hoarding of factoids and useless (or useful) bits of information, for pursuing hobbies. I don't really have favorites.
2. Your favorite children's book (from the age when you were being read to, or just beginning to read.)
I had a lot of the Beatrix Potter books growing up. I still adore them. I think my copy of The Adventures of Squirrel Nutkin was the most battered.
3. Your favorite book as a young adult (define "young adult" as you will.)
Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey. It's the second book of the trilogy, but it deals more with her growth than the first book, and I could relate to it more than the abuse Menolly got from her father and others of her birth-hold. McCaffrey introduced me to sci-fi and fantasy, and many worlds were opened unto me.
4. Your favorite fantasy author--
I have discovered Terry Pratchett. No more needs be said.
5. A slashy book that you own.
The Last Herald Mage trilogy. I'm glad Lori's enjoying it.
