Tears from the sand
Mar. 17th, 2003 09:00 pmI tuned into the replay of last night's first part of Children of Dune, so I wouldn't miss the start of the newest two hours.
Right into the beginning of the entire birth/assassination sequence. I'm still in tears, and I have a feeling this will hit me as hard or harder the next time I see it. Sharp-edged beauty at its best.
Herbert's words don't really touch me emotionally. He's a cerebral writer, with internal monologues galore and political machinations aplenty. He intrigues the hell out of me with the immense depth and breadth of his vision, but emotions are at a bit of a remove in his writing.
And I'm not really an aural person - I can appreciate the beauty in music, and be moved to motion by the beat of a drum.
But this. This. Sometimes the words are simply superfluous.
