Sep. 2nd, 2003 07:21 pmIt's been quite an eventful set of days. I'm still 'net-less at home (and perpetually kicking my brother off my computer anyway) and just caught up on work stuff today. Tomorrow I get to the backlog of LJ - whee!
The excitement that everyone has been asking me about - excitement over owning my own place? Finally kicking in. I got up early and into work well beforetime, with a giant grin on my face. I'm a homeowner! Hee.
Friday was the evil day of moving - just me and Dru and the heavy crap. I was soooo tired and cranky by the end of it, and agonizing over the decision to give Calvin up. Saturday was better - everyone showed up, and we managed the bulk of the boxes in a single load (many cars - one go). Lunch was bestowed, and then the rest only took M's truck and a couple of cars.
The condo association's rules for moving in and out are pretty strict, and a pain to follow, but we managed all right. Apparently, the board president complained about us leaving the elevator pads up while we were in between loads, but the manager (on whose good side I appear to be) told her (and later, me) I was just following the rules, and asking me to take down the pads after each load was too much.
After the second load on Saturday, Kasha accompanied me north for a little retail therapy - we hit up Linens 'n Things for sheets for Dru, and assorted other things (including a little bubbly rock and water fountain for my bedroom). And then we noticed, right across the road, the Holy Grail of Retail Therapy. Nordstrom Rack.
I found my new favorite pair of pants - the label is Tribal, and they're black stretch cotton with cargo pockets and a little kick pleat at the ankle. So cute, and unutterably comfortable. They're even made in Canada. I just wish I could find the manufacturer's website or something and find more of them.
I also found two other pairs of pants - ivory silk with these weird ribbons up the fronts, and pink silk harem capris. Under which you could tell my underwear color. If they'd been lined, I'd have snapped them up in a heartbeat, just to have the cachet of owning a pair of pink silk harem capris. Kasha and I were joking that they'd be just the thing JC would wear.
Sunday was cleanup day, and I finally brought Hobbes and Laurier over to the new place, along with the last remants of crap and cleaning supplies. I also got the very pleasant surprise of having Ali and Nevada adopt Calvin, instead of taking him to the shelter (as it was more in their way than mine.) He seems to be adapting very well to being an only cat, which is all I could ask for. He was probably pretty miserable at the bottom of the totem pole.
The other cats are ok - Hobbes is exceptionally clingy, and Laurier has found hiding spots under the bed and behind the books I've unpacked on the bookshelves. He's currently sitting on my lap, making typing difficult.
Kasha was a dear on Monday - she came over to kidnap me for brunch, and then helped me unpack the kitchen (and laugh at me cutting the shelf paper.) I tempted her into buyng duckies at Storables, while I got closet estimates and a few random things (including a huge butcher block and wheels for my wire shelf set to make it mobile) and we rounded out the day and the weekend with a dip in the pool.
Today started off great - I bussed in nice and early, cheerful as a lark, and spent most of the day catching up on the backlog of wipe&reload requests from the recent worms and viruses. When I biked home, though, with the load of the Market Basket, that was a little more trying. And then I had to put my bike in the bike room - behind four doors and down a set of stairs. That just ain't right.
