Book Signing
Oct. 4th, 2003 11:00 amTerry Pratchett is side-splittingly funny in person. He's a dear little Englishman with a biting wit (no - how could anyone have guessed?!), short, bald and dressed entirely in black. Because black goes with everything, so long as it's black.
He's just finished the sequel to Wee Free Men, and is working on yet another adult Discworld book: Going Postal. He talked for an hour or so about books, the process of writing (three 18" monitors!), his favorite character (Vimes, with Granny Weatherwax a close second), airline carryons and airport security (because we now know that bombs come in shoes) and a handful of other things.
One quote I do remember - the ALA asked him for a quote for a tshirt, and this is what he gave them: "Everything I know, I learned in my library. School taught me how to spit." He said he doesn't think they used that one. Pity - I'd wear it.
