Feb. 3rd, 2004 09:33 pmThree weeks ago, Dad had a job. Today, he and Mom called - they're back in Kansas and Dad's job-hunting again. My father has the worst luck with employers. He'd just passed the one year mark of his new company in Colorado when the CEO of the parent company called him up a couple of weeks ago and let him go. Completely out of the blue. No explanation.
Dad got a belated apology a couple of days later, but still no explanation. I'm pretty sure it's not because he bungled anything - he's done amazing things in just a year, and recent news with the parent company has them showing triple earnings from the year before.
Their house in Kansas never sold, which I think is an oblique blessing - if it had, they'd have bought a place in Pagosa Springs, and the housing market there is... well, at least in Kansas, there's a chance of them selling.
Most of their stuff is in storage, and has been for a year. Mom says it's been rather freeing - she doesn't miss most of it, and has started talking about selling everything but the antiques when next they move. (I've laid dibs on the books and their platform bed. I'm tempted to claim all the Legos, too.)
My family - gypsies all. Traveling folk. Apparently one of the long shots Dad's looking at is in Germany, which is only fueling Mom's desire to chuck everything. My inner pack-rat, of course, is cringing, while my inner gypsy is going 'Hmm... Ireland wouldn't be that far...' More than likely, they'll end up in Denver, though.
It's amazing to me how fast Dad's bounced back. I called him just a couple hours after he got his notice, and he was so quiet and subdued, it scared me. Then, boom, they've picked up, moved back to Kansas, and he's pursuing jobs again with every bit of verve and vigor he's got. In Germany, even. *facepalm* God, he makes me tired just thinking about it.
