Dru had a Pity-Me-I-Broke-My-Leg party last night, so I got to go over and see his new place for the first time. It's right by the train tracks in Magnolia, so it's got some beautiful views, but the trains are pretty loud. I brought over some Cat-5 cable to wire up their house, but I'll need to paw through some old stuff and find the firewall/router and its manual, too before I'm finished.

I finally heard the full story of the broken leg and how he got off the mountain, and then the story that started with an omelette and how they put a plate on his bone. And I'd expand, except he just called to invite me over to lunch.

Well, if that doesn't put me off driving, I don't know what will. I'd finished off my do-gooding at Dru's place: internet-ed him and his roomies, washed the dishes, fed the gimpy boy. Dru was ignoring me for the XBox his friend had lent him, so I thought I'd do errands, maybe check out over-range microwaves so I could lend my microwave to Dru for his convalescence.

That didn't happen. I'd just gotten up to Northgate, when I noticed the brakes being all mushy on the off-ramp. I turned, and was coming up to the light when they just *went*. Pedal to the floor, yanking on the handbrake, even, and BAM! I just plowed right into the back of the guy in front of me.

The paramedics were apparently right around the corner - no one called them, but they were there to check us out and flag down the police. I didn't want to risk attempting to drive Turnbull anywhere after that, and the dude in front of me was completely smushed. I must admit that I didn't feel as bad as I could have - it was a riced out Honda with more chrome than good sense. So even though his car looks like an accordion, it was a shiny accordion. For my part, Turnbull's bumper is dented, and the headlights are gone, but nothing past the brakes seems bad.

The tow guys were very nice - when the insurance lady was stupid and still thinking East Coast time, they pointed me to a shop that'd be open on Saturday and then cracked wise the entire way over. The shop had closed the very minute before we got there, and the lights were dark, so the tow guys offered me a ride home - all the way across town. And then cracked more wise all the way there. Cheered me up no end.

Now I think I'll do laundry and play another round of Imperialism and leave the driving to Metro from now on.
