Invasion Update
Oct. 5th, 2004 08:09 amWell, Mom and Poppa (my maternal grandfather, for those just checking in) arrived at about 6ish Sunday night. I'd more than cleaned enough, so they showed up mid-battle as I was subduing the evildoers of Paragon City.
And then we waited for Dru.
*sigh* Poor boy would normally have gotten off at 7:30. Instead, he had to clean up in a MVA (motor vehicle accident) and didn't get to my place until almost 9. And then we had to empty the trailer Mom had brought with all our crap (that had been residing in their basement for eons.) Half into his truck and the other half into my condo. And he'd only found out they were coming when he got Mom's postcard Saturday. *I* only found out they'd left because I called - my postcard didn't show up until last night. At least we fed him good pizza before he got too cranky.
So Dru rang a peal over Mom - and really, if you're planning to visit, it helps to inform the people you want to see, so that they don't make alternate plans. Eesh.
Yesterday Dru and I both worked, and while I managed toweasel ask nicely for Tuesday off, I still had crap to clean up from when I was gone Thursday/Friday. Mom and Poppa took me out to lunch, and then when the service call I had with Dell ran on towards 6, picked me up and took me to dinner. It's nice to know that hasn't changed: I'm always well fed by my relatives.
Today I get to run around with Mom and Poppa: stuff for me and an apology present for Dru. She was going to frame some of his African paintings for his birthday (now two months past) but he can't find them (and I've looked all through my place, too.) So it's a wetsuit for his triathlons next year instead. And I'll get to smooth feathers on both sides: tell Dru that Mom misses his letters, and Mom that calling more often really is a good idea, even if all you discuss is the weather and the chance that St. Helens might blow.
Wednesday is Dru's, and then they'll head south again - they're meeting my uncle at Poppa's house in Phoenix. The plan is to clear Poppa out, and get the house ready to sell, so he can officially move in with Mom and Dad, as he's been there 'visiting' for almost half a year already. He'd asked to visit before they'd even found a place down in Albuquerque.
