From wet heat to dry heat
Jul. 21st, 2005 07:39 amLanded again. Wobbled a bit, then went splat.
Dad and I got up at 5 yesterday (EDT, mind you) and herded Grandma and Grandpa down to the airport and onto the plane. Man, I have the utmost respect for Grandma's nurses, the cheerfulness, patience and persistence it takes to care for her. There was a nurse sitting behind us on the flight to Chicago (we switched planes at O'Hare) who complimented me on my patience (Hee! *glow*) but it was just the one day, you know? Plus, Grandma is a sweetheart - you can't help but love her. It's Grandpa I have no patience for. Fortunately Dad had the herding of Grandpa.
By the second flight, though, I was flagging. Bring me more tea! Didn't help. Mom was waiting to pick us all up, and we nearly lost Grandpa when he decided he needed to go to the bathroom and wandered off. Then, the nursing home. Took a while to fill out all the paperwork, and keep Grandpa informed - he asked every five minutes if they were staying there, and for how long, and him too, not just Grandma? He'll settle in, but it'll take a while.
Finally, finally, Mom dragged two very tired travelers to dinner and then to bed. By 8, (MDT, you do the math) Kerpow. Out like a light.
Today is errand day (Grandpa needs socks and underwear sort of thing) and fix Mom's computer day (iPhoto is cranky) and other Albuquerque things. Not sure how long I'll be here, as Mom is greedy and doesn't want me to go home. I do want to spend time with Dad, too, go over family trust things and all that. Email the cousins is in the list, and maybe going back and entering all the handwritten journaling I've done (and not) over the past few days.
