Leaving on a Jet Plane
Dec. 18th, 2005 09:00 pmDru was there to fetch me at 5:15ish this morning, but I was ready. That is, I'd woken at 4, before my alarm, and bamm! wide awake. The computers were off (and I was just realizing I hadn't copied the sock puppet vid for my parents) but I just made tea and waited.
I managed to sleep all the way to Denver and finish Dru's scarf (it was long enough, but I wanted to finish off the skein) just as we were landing in ABQ. Mom, Dad and both my grandfathers were there to meet us, and I almost charged past them all to the baggage claim. I was the only one who checked luggage, and oops, was that a mistake. Turns out my bag didn't make the connection (all of 30 min on the ground, so it was pretty obvious why) in Denver, and an hour later (poor Dad circled the airport almost the whole time) I had finally gotten through the claim line and was off to meet the rest of the fam again at the restaurant.
Good food, and then we got to see the new house. It's gorgeous, and hard to believe they've only been there a month - Mom's worked so hard on getting things unpacked and settled. The front door opens into a foyer/breakfast nook with the kitchen to the left, and then steps down into this large, open living room with super-high ceilings and skylights. Right is all the living areas, and beyond the fireplace is a long sunroom where the computers and office-y space is. It's a beautifully open arrangement, and I asked several times if I could take it back to Seattle with me.
Dru's gf and he crashed out on the couch for a bit (this was now mid-afternoon, and they hadn't slept on the plane) while Mom and I went out on the Grand Slipper hunt (for her, the gf and one grandpa.) I'd brought some gifts, but the whole shopping thing hadn't quite happened. Yet. Dinner was soup with these little noodles that I swore looked like tentacles, but that didn't seem to put anyone off their meal.
