Oi.

So they've been negotiating new office space for us IT monkeys, trying to get us all in one cage (so to speak) for oh, a year or so now, and they finally cleared out the one room a few months back, and two years from now, all the updates and renovations will be done.

Somewhere in there, they realized we needed a wee bit more space, but deciding exactly which former lab they could convert was taking a little bit. 402, 404, 418, 420, oh wait, that one has special equipment we can't move, that one a doc has dibs on, can't do that one...

Only it's crunch time now - they got the ok to rip out the space we're in *now*, so we have either a week or two to move. June 1, the 8th if we're lucky. Stick, meet anthill.

Of course, now we're facing the usual tussle - two window spots and three techs, who gets the short stick? I get to wave my 5-year pin (acquired just two weeks ago) in the name of seniority, which should help.

I lay the blame for this one squarely on John Ringo. In Ghost, in a couple of tense scenes in the book, he referenced two songs - one was by Heather Alexander, and Kris had included it in one of her mixes, so I was more than familiar with it (I use that CD to wake up in the mornings) The other was new to me, Winter Born by the Cruxshadows. Huh, I says, curiosity piqued, let me just go look this up...

You know what? iTunes is EVOL! Such teases. I could get just enough of a sense that I might like the song, but I couldn't get a good handle on the lyrics, so I had to go ahead and buy the song... but which version! Ack! Ok, fine, Frozen Embers has three versions. Yay. (Now I know I should have gone straight to the band's website, which is currently providing me with an excuse to use my giant earphones at work.)

A couple things struck me last night, in addition to the 'hey, I like this'. The acoustic version of Winterborn sounded like it could fit in with something else that's familiar to me, but I can't for the life of me remember what any more! *cudgels brain* The other was that it would make a spectacular Duncan vid for Highlander.  Beyond the obvious level of Duncan's birthday, there's a big theme of dying for others, or twist it and show all the ones who have died for or near him - Tessa, Ritchie, Fitz... Anyway, idea free to good home.

Ahah!

Firefly! That's it! The guitar and the violin combo - that was it. That's what it sounds a little like - the theme of Firefly and WinterBorn Acoustic version.
