My brother is just an amazing guy. Seriously. Wow. Dad too, but extra kudos to Dru.

Dad got in almost 2 hours late Friday, but I had power by then, so the green light was on for the bathroom revamp. We tore everything out but the toilet and proceeded to patch, sand and prep everything on Saturday. I thought we'd have the floor done by the end of the day, but 4 trips to Home Despot later and we'd pretty much just done demo and patch. We'd had to fill in 1/4" dip in the floor where the old cabinet had been with leveling cement, and that actually dried fast enough to walk on, but we still had 12 hours before we could install the new floor over it. Dru left about 4, with most of the crap in his truck, and Dad and I took an early dinner. We finally knocked off about 10, when Dad gave up fiddling with the overhead fan/light and the gaping hole he'd cut in the ceiling.

Sunday went a little faster. Or didn't seem so long. Breakfast was the first order of the day, though. When the line at Portage Bay Cafe looked too long, we skipped down to the waterfront to Voula's cafe. I love PBC, but there's something about greasy spoons (usually in the middle of nowhere) and my Dad...

The leveling cement we'd poured and the prep stuff on the floor was finally dry, so we tore up the toilet and put down the new floor (one piece of vinyl, quick and easy). There were a few hiccups - nut for the sink drain, extra wax ring for the toilet, screws to mount the cabinets, but everything we could do was done by 6ish or so. There were patches on the wall and ceiling that needed to dry before they were painted, and miscellaneous stuff, but my bathroom was mostly functional again by Sunday night.

Dad left for his business meeting Monday morning, I headed off to work, and Dru? Dru, with the day off? He took all the old crap in his truck to the dump, then came over to my place and sanded down the patches and painted them and installed the shower rod (that we couldn't find for love or money at Home Depot, because Mom had seen it at Bed Bath and Beyond instead) and cleaned up and gawd. He's just awesomesauce.

I've been talking and thinking about redoing the bathroom for months now, but I'd never have been able to finish it in a weekend by myself. I'm truly blessed to have such wonderful family, who know I'm a slacker and wouldn't have started it without prodding, and who are perfectly happy to provide the prodding and the muscle to help.

(I've decided that a truly liberated woman is one who can fix her plumbing by herself, but is smart enough to stand back when two men want to do it for her.)
