A Tale of Two Socks

One of my not-quite-a-resolutions this year was to knit more socks. I'd come to the conclusion that they were perfect bus knitting: small, portable and with minimal finishing. That and one of the blogs I follow, Wendy Knits is always knitting and posting socks, and has sock patterns and how tos and hey, I can do that stuff!
So I ordered some sock yarn off Elann and sat down in the bar at The Rock on New Years Eve to wait for some of the SOK crew for the imbibing of the Rum Buckets and cast on my first sock of the year.
Now, socks knit fairly quickly, but that doesn't mean I finish them quickly. I have these 20 minute blocks of time, and there's the book-reading that competes for that time. (And also, the staring out the window brain-dead time, too.)
But eventually I finished my first sock. I didn't snip off and weave in the ends, just cast off and stuffed it into the bag and cast on the second sock. Then I lost a sock. Well... phooey. I hadn't liked the lace bit on the ankle anyway, but damn, that means I had half-finished a sock, and not enough yarn to make two of them.
So I tossed it aside and started a second pair. And started a little shrug-sweater-thing. And then I found the sock on the shuttle, and there I was with a gazillion projects again.
And besides, that lace bit was bugging me. So I ripped out the first sock down to the ankle, finished off the second one on the camping trip and started in on the first one again on the car ride back to STL.
I just finished that first sock on the bus this morning. Go me!

Les Socks
(I actually still need to weave in the ends, but I don't have my knitkit with me today, since I took it out of my bag, scissors and all, for the flight to STL.)
