So Mom's gotten better and worse and better again, for a certain value of 'better' that includes 'still severe memory issues/dementia, losing weight and still under hospice care.' A couple of days ago she forgot who my Dad was, but remembered me enough to take my word that he's her husband of 49 years. And then of course she gets upset that she can't remember. (More frustrating for me is that she can't remember her own limitations, such as standing unassisted. Dru was very insistent that she's a MAJOR fall risk: it's the biggest threat to her health right now.)
My brother visited for two weeks, and went through my parent's house like a typhoon: 8 carloads (Subaru Forester) to the dump, and 9 to Goodwill. We've tagged all the major furniture as keepers or out it goes - some is still listed on craigslist after the first wave went out on freecycle. He also set us up with care goals, and I translated those into a daily checklist. Dad's a pilot, so he appreciates checklists, and it's a good way for he and I to hand off care duties.
So I'm at the point where I can focus more on work during work hours, and work itself is going well. But everything else is stalled. Mom's dying, but not really, my condo is asbestos-free, but the Board hasn't approve the flooring replacement yet, and I have identified a car to replace my 22-year old Subaru with (2014 Toyota Sienna - AWD, which is IMPORTANT for REASONS.) but haven't gotten the credit union to send the check to the dealership. Let me just twiddle my thumbs some.
Yesterday sucked: I woke up at 4 from a dream that all my belongings in storage had been been sitting in the parking lot of my condo: the pods shattered, and a trail of destroyed and discarded things led out onto the road. Hello, Anxiety. Then I tried to take a nap and Dad forgot to bring the alert that lets us know if Mom tries to get up. *I* could hear it through two doors and over the noise of the dryer.
Today is better. I woke at 4, read a little, and then went back to sleep until 9. Oh, it was glorious.
