13. "RPF" is a convenient acronym; "real-person fic" is something of a misnomer. I do not believe that RPF disrespects the "realness" of real people (see #11 and #12). However, "FIBRP" (Fiction Inspired By Real People) never caught on, even though I think that having "FIB" in our acronym would be really snazzy and relevant.
(From [livejournal.com profile] popfantastic's RPS rant)

I was looking at that (and all thoughts of commenting on the kerfluffle itself aside (as it's rather obvious that I'm rather cheerfully pro-rps,) and I was thinking that FIBRP is rather a mouthful of an acronym, which is why it didn't catch on, but FIRP, on the other hand, if you don't add the 'by' into the acronym, is a nice, flip little acronym. As in: 'Hey, I FIRP boybands, do you?' 'No, man, I just FIRP dead people.' FIFP (Fiction Inspired by Fictional People) isn't as slick (sounds like you're raspberrying someone, really) but fanfic covers that area just fine (and really, is more inclusive, as in Highlander in particular, I'm often inspired as much by the concept as by the characters. Fanfic, but not character fic.)

Hey. 'Nother thought. Is Mary Sue considered RPS/FIRP? *evil grin* 'Cause that'd pull the wind from a lotta people's sails.
