Dru's such a cut-up. He sends me an email this morning on his way out. The subject's all: 'Pay my bill, bitch' (the which idea I think he got from our characterization of the cats: 'Feed me, bitch. Now pet me. Yeah, that's it.') Then, of course, the first line of the email is abject grovelling for me to take care of his first student loan payment, which is due before his new checks come in. (And yes, he did leave me the money for it.)

He's off to Colorado again. Then down to California for a wilderness EMT class in the late spring, and he'll end up on my doorstep again (and probably my couch) in July, either right before or after the Denali climb (I'm not sure which.) And then we'll be living in the same town again, for the first time since high school. That's just too cool.

Finally back from calligraphy class that started at 6:30, and I really wanted to put on a soothing pot of tea. I took another look at the clock, and the nine stared back at me: 'No caffeine, honey, or you'll be sorry.' So, mint tea and sourdough toast for a hobbit-approved after-supper course.

Hee. As I posted to Lori:
Not dead yet.
Still not queen.
Calvin will pee if I try anything.
As Dru is gone, am now the prettiest.

Style-imitation of a parody aside, Harborview is killing me. Add high-maintenance users to a high-traffic back to the corridor desk, and I'm contemplating the suck factor to be somewhere around fermented weasel piss. It's only slightly above hairy, sweaty donkey balls due to the fact that I can take obscenely long lunches (when I remember lunch), arrive late and leave early. I usually only have to grace the structure with my presence on Mondays, but I had to be there yesterday to do a server switch that we never got around to, and again today to cover the usual Harborview guy so he could get his house inspected. At 9. He didn't show up at work until 3.

I did finally skim back to the U to figure out where and when my class was (an hour earlier than I thought, and in a completely different section of campus, so it's good I checked. I had dinner at the HUB, and thought up evil things to do to my gamers before class, so it was all very soothing. The HUB is very different from my college's main dining hall - at CC, almost everyone was residential, and there was only one alternative (which had more vegetarian/vegan choices, so that's where the granolas headed) so the dining hall was full at lunch and dinner. (Not so much at breakfast, college students being typically averse to morning hours. I adored their waffles, so...) I was at the HUB last week (I think, was it only a week ago), and the place was teeming. Tonight, all the food stations were closed except for pizza and subway, and the dining areas were only sparsely populated.

It made me glad that I'd done my undergrad at CC, and at the same time it's a refreshing change of pace. Except that I miss the waffles something fierce. Those were breakfast crack.

Oh yeah - I suppose I should mention that thing that sucked up my evening.

It was interesting - longer than I thought - almost two hours, but worth it. The instructor is a professional calligrapher, and has been for thirty years now, so it was pretty damn obvious real quick that she knew what she was talking about. Such a glorious hand as she demonstrated the evolution of the scripts, from Roman to uncial to carolingian to gothic to italic. It occured to me pretty quickly that the italic calligraphy practive Mom had Dru and me do back in grade school paid off - my style when I'm trying to do carolingian has a decided italic slant (45 degrees instead of 30 degrees).

The instructor came off a little flighty and bird-like to me, but she kept on topic well enough, and I can translate art-speak. (If you just listen to her go on about stroke and lines and filling the space, it can be sort of pornographic. Hee :)

And a survey for my own amusement: )
