Feb. 14th, 2003 12:16 pm1. Explain why you started to journal/blog.
Way back in the when, the only person I knew who journalled online was my best friend. We were in two different states, and even if we didn't talk much or email much, I could keep track of what she was doing - if she was happy or not. I started my own journal to reciprocate (and lapsed a couple of times too.) Now, I journal for a couple of reasons - the same reciprocation with Kris, multiplied, and to keep a narrative for myself. Memory often depends on narrative, and I find it easier to recall things if I write about them.
2. Do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? Why or why not?
Oh yes. My family knows, I think, but they aren't online that much. I've had conversations with my roommates over LJ, when we've only been a couple of rooms away from each other. Sometimes these little comments are easier typed than walked up the stairs to say.
3. Do you have a theme for your journal/blog?
Not anymore. When I switched over to LJ, I stopped worrying about looks - I figure pretty much everyone has their own theme for their friends page - it doesn't much matter what yours is, it's going to be overridden most of the time anyway.
4. What direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year?
That's like asking me where I envision myself in five years. I have no fucking clue. Life comes along, I deal with it, life moves on, I write about it.
5. Pimp five of your favorite journals/blogs.
Oh, lordy. Well, I think Kris' site is simply gorgeous.
Wil Wheaton's site is priceless. He's such an unsselfconscious geek, it's wonderful.
Big Poppa E is a performance poet I met once here in Seattle, but his journal is a constant source of interest and amusement. If you ever have the opportunity to see him perform, go.
Since I pick my widgets for so many different reasons, I find it hard to pick and choose, so I'll pimp a couple of amusing bits of feline humor: Divacat and Cricket the Great.
