Spent two hours in the garden with my new gloves.

I remembered at the last muinute that I'd spent an hour getting the crud out from underneath my nails, thought briefly of slugs, and scooted down to the hardware store on Wallingford for new gardening gloves. To look at them now, you couldn't tell. They're entirely encrusted with dirt, which is as it should be.

I didn't get everything. Lord. We may have two postage stamps put together for a back yard, but they're still mostly weeds, and that's a tough job. I did take the little push-mower to half of the back, which actually has a decent grass-to-weed ratio, and I'd forgotten what fun it is. Especially when the grass isn't waist high.

Let's see: two bags of weeds and leaves and the needle-y things from the monkey puzzle tree. I raked the front walk, too, which really needed it. I accidentally pulled a couple of the random bulbs that are coming up everywhere, and I'm beginning to think that the majority of them have sprouted from seed. How else to account for tiny little bulbs in random cracks, and even under the edging bricks?

By the end there I was starting to think very silly thoughts about halfling rangers with slugs for a favored enemy, and a 0-level druid spell: Eliminate Weeds. It would need a sample of the specific weed in question as the material component, and you can only eliminate the one type at a time, but wow with the handy.

And then Calvin, who'd been keeping me company, decided to pipe up as I was starting in on the weeds by the front walk, and I agreed with him, that yes, we'd been spending too much time outside, even if the sunshine was nice.

I need to shower now.
