Beet me, baby!
Feb. 19th, 2003 03:42 pmThe beet is the most intense of vegetables. the radish, admittedly, is more feverish, but the fire of the radish is a cold fire, the fire of discontent not of passion. Tomatoes are lusty enough, yet there runs through tomatoes an undercurrent of frivolity. Beets are deadly serious. -- Tom Robbins, Jitterbug Perfume
That's the beginning of the first passage in the book, and what I'm using for my calligraphy project. We cut a piece of paper 18x24, measured and ruled it to the same standards they were using when the hand (Carolingian) was developed, and now I'm going to go for that tomatoe-y note of frivolity.
I've been having a horrid time of multi-tasking lately, so that's what I'll be thinking about until 8:30 tonight, when I will finally begin to fret about Escapade. There will definitely be some mad running about, with a slight chance of hyperventilation, followed by a to-early-rising tomorrow and a mind-numbing drive. I hope Lori actually gives me a chance at the wheel - I like long-distance driving, especially when I know there's someone to take over when I get excruciatingly bored.
Fortunately, the laptop will be going with. And I know exactly where the auto adapter is. (Oh! Thought! I may have an extra battery here at work that I can borrow! There is - and fully charged, too.) I started packing on Monday because I knew I wouldn't have the time yesterday and oh! look - today's booked too.
A coworker of mine is heading for Ireland, England and Spain soon, and all I can think of is how nice it might be to simply have a month or so off work. Well, and that I'm furiously jealous of her trip, but mostly the month off, with no jangling phones or recalcitrant printers. I'm more than looking forward to an extra-long weekend with nothing but slash, slash, slash.
