Hah. I got up at 7 this morning (after dithering around trying not to wake up with the 6am alarm) and to work by 7:30. A bloody miracle that. I was supposed to meet my boss, then hit the hardware store, and finally get to Harborview by 8:30.

Again, hah. An hour twiddling my thumbs at the U, then finally boss-man shows, and we spend another fifteen minutes in the hardware store.

And all for a 00 Phillips screwdriver so I can spend 30 seconds adding memory to a spanking-new laptop.

I'd be amused if I didn't need to get this done yesterday.

I really love it when my users realize when I'm kicking ass and taking names: the doctor I'm doing this rush job setting-up-his-new-laptop-before-he-runs-off-to-Australia just gave me a bottle of wine. Nothing fancy, just a California merlot. And in time for my birthday, though he knows nothing about that.

I'm a little tired, and hungry, but as soon as I hit home, I'll be turning right back around for an author event at the UBookstore: Steven Brust! I'll get many signature-type things.

Arriving at the bookstore, I recognized the sci-fi guy who organizes all these things, standing outside the back door, looking around. When I asked him if it had started yet, he replied: "Well, I don't have an author yet..." and just then, I saw a Hat walk in the opposite door. This Hat fairly shouted 'Personality here! I herald only quirks and intelligent sarcasm!' Without seeing the Hat's wearer's face, or really knowing much of what Steven Brust looks like, I pointed to him and said, "That should be him there," whereupon we followed the Hat into the bookstore and up the stairs.

It was indeed, Steven. Though, given the choice, he looks more like a Steve. The Hat, however, proclaims 'Viscount Brust, Lord of Cats Laughing'. Without the plume. It needs a plume. And the Cats Laughing bit was off the tshirt. Don't think he could have pulled off a sword, either.

He read from Paths of the Dead, promised us Lord of Castle Black and Sethra Lavode within the year, (October and April, respectively) and went about signing books.

I shall have to keep a sharp eye on the UBookstore events: beginning with Mercedes Lackey next week, there is a plethora of authors scheduled for a run through the Emerald City. Wohoo!
