Robes

The crimson turned out a bit light last night, so I dunked it in burgundy this morning while I was dying the yellow. The yellow's turned out fantastic, and I think I might not have stirred the red quite enough this morning, as it's the tiniest bit patchy. Only really noticeable under strong light, methinks.

It's interesting - I've only ever used RIT in large lot dying before - toss in the wash and go. It's not the best or most colorfast dye, and I didn't have a get red on hand, so I'm using Procion from the UBookstore art department. Salt and soda ash were both things I hadn't needed for the RIT, but it's interesting that both were mentioned in one of the short stories from the new 1634 anthology. I haven't broken down and bought the Webscription yet, because I'd only get part of the book today, but in a month or so, I'll head back and read more than the teasers.

It's all in the dryer now, with a couple pairs of jeans that I ran through after I washed the dyed fabric (just courtesy, not to turn your neighbor's undies bright pink, neh?)

I'll be fudging two patterns together again - the robe pattern I'm using (Simplicity 8944) doesn't have the right neck join at the hood, so I'll nick that from my cloak pattern (Simplicity 7438) Shorten up the sleeves a bit (just below the elbow), length to mid-calf, and make the hood pointy, and I'm ready to go.

Once my back gets tired of cutting, serging and sewing, I'll head up to Northgate to match up the sweater yarn.
