I've managed super-hero level creds for making it in to work for 4 days last week. (And I get a pass for day 5 - I could have gone in, but asked for a work-from-home day to deal with a condo matter.) But I walked home from the light rail station on Friday, and beat the bus at it. (Seriously, three miles, in the snow, and I was faster than the bus.) I cleared off my car yesterday afternoon and then decided that I didn't need or want to go anywhere. Today, I took the bus (my route is running, even with much of the county on Emergency Snow Network) to the grocery store for milk and a few other things. And that was enough super-heroing.

I'm still considered essential, but I can work remotely easily enough. So I'm planning on nope-ing out on the whole commute thing for the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, the Gears of HR grind slowly, especially as they've had campus closing for a good bit of the last week. This is a position that the hiring manager has been trying to entice me into for months now (back during hell-job) but it wasn't even created until just the end of January. I applied, and I interviewed before the snow, but the last incremental steps seem to be draaaaaaawwwwn out.

It was conveyed to me that the interview panel thought I "seemed pretty mellow", but underneath the calm exterior is a woman wildly flailing her arms while jumping up and down, screaming "FUCKING HIRE ME ALREADY!" Actually, picturing that in my head probably helps me keep chill, as Head!Me can scream all she wants, while Outer!Me smiles and plays nice with current management.

I don't have an official job offer yet, and I kind of wanted to wait on that to announce my exit, but as they called my current manager as a reference... well. He's a good guy, and I can rightly attribute my leaving to Hell!Manager, so I'm doing what I can to wrap things up nicely on my current projects, without committing myself to too much going forward.

I feel the worst for my mentor, who is being left behind by not just me, but another coworker whose last day will be this coming Friday. She's eligible to retire from the UW, but figuring out what to do with herself until she's actual retirement age (health care is an issue) is one fo the few things keeping her to sticking around. Her last fuck has been given, but at the same time, I have to put myself and my career (I've got a lot more ahead of me!) in mind. I had thought to basically step into her shoes when she retired, but our grandboss's master plan has changed so much recently, it's not the surety it was.

I have not come up with a successor to the dead PC. To tide myself over, I purchased Subnautica for the Xbox One and have been playing that all weekend. In between fanfic breaks.
